The Royal Navy Rugby Union started awarding caps from 2014 for the Mariners XV with a qualification of six Inter Service matches since 2011, the first player to receive their cap under this qualification rule was Paul Clark.  He also became the first player to be capped by the Royal Navy Rugby Union in two different categories as he won two Senior XV caps in 2003.  The first group of caps were presented by Rear Admiral Key, then Vice President of the Royal Navy Rugby Union following the Army Masters v Royal Navy Mariners match at Kneller Hall.  The four players who had qualified received their caps in alphabetical order however as all four were replacements it is Ian Jenkins who holds the distinction of being the first capped Mariner for Royal Navy Rugby Union.
