Master and Apprentice Scoop Navy Women’s Players Awards

Emily Parks – Navy Women’s Players Player of the Year

Probably the most satisfying sporting award any player can receive is one voted upon by their peers.  At the Royal Navy Women’s Rugby dinner last weekend it was Emily Parks, the Navy Hooker, who was voted as the RN(W) Player’s Player of the Year preventing Loz Morton making it a hat trick of wins.

Emily ‘Peanut’ Parks in action against the RAF but it was her scrummaging (alongside Pam Williams and Emily Atkins) at Kneller Hall that was for many the highlight of her season.

However Emily will not be able to rest on her laurels because Amy Risker, her understudy at hooker, won the trophy for the most improved player.

Amy has made great strides this season and will no doubt be setting her sights on a starting slot in the team.  Amy in action above taking the game to the Army.
Amy Risker, RN(W) Emerging Player of the Year and there must be a story behind why she was wearing a Marine Nationale hat after the match against the Army!

Congratulations to both players on well deserved recognition.

Thankyou very much for this lovely article. I cetainly am looking over my shoulder but it is only positive and a sign of our progression that we have such competition not just in the front row but all over the pitch.

The hat was presented to the team last season from Vince our translator/escort for our trip to Toulon. It was decided thet the youngest member of the squad would be responsible for looking after the hat and more importantly the “lucky” red pom pom on the top.
