Navy Breakers Break Army Spirits

It is always good to report on Navy victories over the Army at rugby and congratulations go out to the Royal Australian Navy Breakers who are the 2014 Inter Service Champions.  Following a first round 55-12 victory over the RAAF, the Breakers took on the Army in a winner takes all match.  The Army as holders started the game as favourites but as the match entered its last quarter it was the Navy who held a slender lead.  An Army try eased them in front and with time running out it looked as if the Army would retain the trophy.  However the Navy side launched one final multi phase attack which culminated in second row forward Jason Harrington crashing over to seal the famous victory. By all accounts it was the RAN’s pack which secured victory which suggests that the RN will need to be on their guard when they travel to New Zealand in September for the seventh Commonwealth Navies Rugby Cup.  RAN prop James Smith was named the player of the series and twelve others were named in the Australian Services (Combined Services) Team.  Among them was another the RN will need to keep an eye on, full back Daryl Seden who scored a hat trick of tries against the RAAF in the opening match.

Congratulations to all involved with RAN rugby.
