With the Sharks trailing Filton Old Boys by 5 points a Yellow Card for John Barnett ended any hope of a come back in the West Country Sevens Quarter Final.

The Sharks conceded another very earlier try in their Quarter Final against Filton OBs.  Having lost to the same side in the final of Rugby Rocks at Richmond, the Sharks were hoping for a strong start but a missed tackle from Bobby Conroy-Smith allowed Filton to go under the posts for a seven point score.

The Sharks nearly hit straight back with a strong run from Greg Welling.

Unfortunately the ball was spilled in the tackle close to the line and from the resultant scrummage Filton OBs counter attacked from deep and were only thwarted by excellent Sharks covering defence.  However from their field position Filton were able to engineer a second score to take a  12-0 lead.

Sharks though were not subdued and another good passage of play was well finished off by Kyle Woods who ran strongly to beat the covering tackle in the corner and went under the posts for the try. Ian Cooper converted and the half time whistle was blown at 12-7.

The Sharks started the second half brightly but when Greg Welling had an altercation at a tackle, John Barnett made the rash mistake of getting involved and was Yellow Carded.  Down to 6 players for two minutes the Sharks conceded two scores and the game was over.

Josh Jones made an excellent late break which deserved the consolation score but was held short and despite a penalty award the Sharks could not convert.
Ian Cooper, as captain, will have mixed feeling from the tournament. The Sharks clearly missed Toots in their midfield but a number of the youngsters were exposed to some harsh lessons at the higher level and will have learnt from it.

With one last tournament to go at the Newquay Surf Sevens the Sharks season has probably stuttered slightly but there were many positives and a young group of players continue to develop.
