Commonwealth Cup Comes of Age

Although it is never easy to lose, the events in New Zealand over the last couple of weeks may well, in time, be remembered as the time that the Commonwealth Navies Rugby Cup finally came of age.  Since it’s inception it has been monopolised by the Royal Navy.  The Kiwis thought they had done the hard part in 2006 only to slip up against the Aussies.  In 2014 their did not make the same mistake and closed out the competition with an impressive final victory over their Trans Tasman rivals.  The History of Navy Rugby by Alligin Photography pages on the Commonwealth Navies Rugby Cup have now all been updated.  There is also a page on the inaugural Four Nations Maritime Cup.

The previous team to visit New Zealand was in 2003.  The picture above includes 4 of the 5 most capped players in RN rugby history, the last full International, the previous DoR and previous Head Coach along with the current Combined Services DoR.  Quite a group.
