Lieutenant John Adrian Tremayne Rodd Royal Navy was another of the navy Rugby’s Scottish internationals winning fourteen caps as a scrum-half between 1958 and 1965. His debut was in the Scottish victory over France, 11-9, at Murrayfield in 1958 but probably took as much pleasure in the draw achieved against the 1964 touring All Blacks. He was also one of the players to get caught up in the stringent amateur regulations pre the game turning professional in 1995. Having retired from rugby in 1965 he travelled with the 1966 British Lions as a journalist. When in 1970 he made a come back at club level the Scottish Rugby Union promptly issued a ban saying that he was professional as he had made money out of the game of rugby union.

I am sure that Tremayne would rather his club rugby be remembered for being a member of the famous London Scottish sevens side that won five middlesex titles in the 60’s.

For those of you with a statistical bent Rodd played three times agains the Army, winning two and losing one. On each occasion the score was 6-3.
