If the Caps Fits

John Lamsin

With the team announced to play the Marine Nationale there are six uncapped players named in the 23 – 3 due to start and 3 on the 8 man bench.  The will join the ‘Silver Tie’ club of the Royal Navy.  They will be able to look at a long list of very distinguished players who have been capped, over the years, by the ROyal Navy Rugby Union.

With the match now in its third year of being capped status John Lamsin has been selected to pack down with experienced Marsh Cormack in the second row.  John has held of the strong claims from Chris Thompson to become the Navy’s 701st player.

Dom Taylor

A man of the match performance by Dom Taylor, over in Dublin, sealed his place in an exciting and quick back row.  He partners current Cossack Sword holder, Sam Laird at flanker, with the strong ball carrying skills of Ian Cooper between them at eight.

Matt Tichias

The third new cap in the starting XV is centre Matt Tichias.  He scored an excellent try in the match against Esher and is forming a solid partnership with Dale Sleeman.

Eight Man Bench

The match is being played under international law and so there will be an eight man bench.  Three of the eight are potential new caps.

Josh Terry – made the bench in the fiercely competitive front row competition.
Chris Thompson – has carried on from his performances in the Commonwealth Cup and narrowly missed out to John Lamsin for the starting spot.
Greg Welling – limited opportunity so far since Christmas but is a proven try scorer as shown in Sydney.

Navy Rugby by Alligin Photography wishes the team and especially the new caps the best of luck for the match this evening.
