The sevens circuit has proven the spawning ground for both the Navy’s and the Air Force’s recent resurgence in fortunes at the XV-a-side game whilst the Army have proved that they are capable of performing on the world stage in the shorter game. What is also clear is the very different environment in which Service sevens is played and all three Services are supportive of each other.
Therefore under my image above of Service unity I unashamedly make a request on your wallets on behalf of the Spitfires Sevens team. This weekend they depart from the Scottish Borders, after the IRB Sevens tournament, on a cycle ride to Twickenham in time for the final leg of the IRB world sevens series. One of their chosen charities is the Khelo Charity which is helping under privileged children, through rugby in Calcutta and has more recently expanded to Afghanistan.
So whether you allegiance is to Alfred’s unbeaten Red Army Sevens, Sam’s Sharks or the Spitfires themselves spare the cost of a pint (celebratory if Army, commissary if Navy, and its your guys getting saddle sore if RAF) to sponsor the team. Your donation is one click away.
If you what more information on the Khelo Rugby Project visit their Facebook page.
